bbLeaders Radio is back for a third season! bbLeaders kicked off Season 3 on October 21st and brought the fiery energy we have all been craving this Halloween. We went for the fear factor by airing our bbLeaders, DJ O-well, DJ Kayla, DJ Anjelly, and DJ Lorraine. All of the sets on the show were able to catch the vibrance that represents bbLeaders around this time of year. They brought back the nostalgic, hype throwbacks that we all love during this season.

Two of the live DJs were interviewed by our hosts Karesse and Mia, and we were able to get insight as to how they created their set. DJ Kayla’s set was inspired by R&B and Hip Hop. Her inspiration comes from Mary J Blige, which is one of the best examples of the vibes her song selections give off, an empowering yet startling vibe with the change of direction of the tracks. The other live DJ was Angelica Reyes aka DJ Anjelly who says “her motivation is the artists she surrounds herself with.” Her set was based on throwbacks that the older generation can jam to when listening and feeling the goodness of the good old days.

Host Mia Destiny and co-host Karesse came with a refreshing discussion throughout the entire episode. The two are a great pair as they front-lined the season premiere. Mia Destiny brought the upbeat energy and Karesse brought the calm and serious nature, while they both discussed the horrors of the music industry that is often hidden by Hollywood glamor. These artists speak about the culture of fear revolving around the music industry. Some of these fears include inadequacy and financial instability.

The artists also speak on the entertainment industry while reflecting on their experiences and how they have been affected throughout their time in the industry. One of the artists mentioned is China Anne McClain, who most of us know from the Disney Channel hit TV show “Ant Farm”. During China's time on Ant Farm, she released a song called “Calling all the Monsters” which instantly became popular. Her growth in the industry is and continues to be an inspiration.

The focus of the conversation continues as they emphasize the importance of being intentional with your art, and encourage all artists out there to keep the integrity of who they are as artists and individuals. What helps them stay so close to their most authentic self in their art is their community. Building Beats is a community that encourages growth and focuses on individuality within the artist by strengthening a sense of self through creativity. DJ Anjelly shares a story of her first time DJing and spoke about her learning process and when she self-taught herself versus when she finally joined Building Beats and became a bbLeader.

DJ David Ray from season 2 makes a surprise guest appearance when asked about a DJ gig, showing the audience that everyone in the community supports each other and attends each other's gigs. The bbLeader crew made the most out of this first episode and brought some very interesting discussions to the table. Based on this episode we are expecting this season to bring about more relevant discussion revolving around the music industry.
