This Sample Pack is one of four in a series inspired by the sounds heard while being stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sounds, artwork, and page created by Ray Hollander, Chapin scholar.

Sounds of Home

by Ray Hollander

This sound pack was created using objects I had in my room such as books, pens, lights, tennis balls and a stapler.  The recording of the sounds were easy but using them to create a sound pack was more challenging because the sounds needed to be edited a bit. Some needed their bass amped and others had noise or an unpleasant echo. After individually fixing each recording I started combining a few that were made using similar items. A combination I made was of two books, one heavy and one light. They had slightly different sounds and the larger book made a much deeper sound than the lighter one. In order to achieve that fullness I added a filter onto the deeper of the two books, to make it sound like it was being dropped in a church. Then I added some reverb to the second book. The combination created a very full sound similar to a drum kick in an echo chamber. I did the same thing to two click sounds to achieve a more full sound.

I hope this sound pack can help those who are hoping to add a subtle familiarity to what they are making and maybe lead them to making their own sounds at home too.
