A free beat-making lesson for your classroom

Intro to Beats, Bars and Loops is the first lesson in Building Beats' music production unit, and it's free. In one lesson, students learn what beats, bars and loops are, count them out loud, then make their own beat in Incredibox, a free music tool that runs in the browser.

Who is it for?

Music, STEAM, CTE and after-school teachers working with middle and high school students. No music production experience needed to teach it.

What's inside

• 18 ready-to-teach slides you can project or open in Google Slides

• Learning goals, two warm-ups and a step-by-step beat-making activity

• Reflection questions and a vocabulary list (beat, bar, loop, BPM, tempo)

• Built by Building Beats, which has taught music production to NYC students since 2013
